For many Americans the late 1970's were tough. Due to the watergate scandal, the Vietnam war, uncertainty in the Middle East, and economic crisis at home. Due to the idealistic dreams of the 1960's, we embraced a new conservatism in social, economic and political life during the 1980's. During this decade there was an explosion of blockbuster movies and the emergence of cable networks like MTV. The new rights movement in the late 1970's early 1980's appealed to a diverse assortment of Americans. This demographic shift had important consequences. Many of them migrated from the older industrial cities of the north and the south. The liberals came to be know as the "Reagan Democratic." President Ronald Reagan set this all in action.
